Summary: Join The Remix Family as we speak with The Grand Chief Black-Hawk Thunderbird of The Yamasi Tribe * The Yamassee are a Native American tribe that once lived in the coastal region of present-day northern coastal Georgia near the Savannah River and later in northeastern Florida. Starting in the late 16th century, the Spanish established missions among the Guale. The Yamassee were later included in the missions of the Guale province. In the 1670s the Westo tribe forced the Yamassee to move south from the Savannah River. Starting in 1675 the Yamassee were mentioned regularly on Spanish mission census records of the missionary provinces of Guale (central Georgia coast) and Mocama (present-day southeastern Georgia and northeastern Florida). The Yamasee usually did not convert to Christianity and remained somewhat segregated from the Christian Indians of Spanish Florida.* The Yamassee has stayed hidden up until this point so, we could reclaim our land & our people, and be able to better protect our children and women. We the Yamassee Native Americans are Completely Autonomous , self Governing, and One of the few Tribes left, not under Federal jurisdiction.
