C4AL #17 – E-mail Grab Bag: Choosing the One Right Business Idea, Justifying Your Shop Rate, and Developing Parts

Cars For A Living show

Summary: 1) From Brandon L: I want to start a business in the automotive field. My biggest problem is I don't know where to start or what it should be. I have such a passion for the field in general, I am having a problem pin pointing what I should do. Do you have any suggestions as to where I need to start? So many opportunists and so many chances to pick the wrong one. 2) From Evan L: A previous employer told me about your podcast. To make this short what advice would you give a 26 year old getting into the performance industry? How do I justify my rates for the area I'm in for the.type and quality of work I do? 3) From Paul C: I already have a little shop in Arkansas that have been blessed to be going for 7 years now. I am having a hard time with first being able to charge for the time we actually have in some of the full builds. I also want to try to start selling suspension stuff that we build ourselves but don't know how to do it....and am worried the market is too crowded already.
