DoDLive Bloggers Roundtable: Navy Research and Development

DoDLive Bloggers Roundtable show

Summary: DoDLive Bloggers Roundtable with Dr. Wayman Cheatham, special assistant for medical research to The Navy Surgeon General and Director, Navy Medicine Research and Development Center, Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Cheatham will discuss how U.S. Navy biomedical research and development role is supporting today's warfighter. The Navy's many U.S. and overseas-based research laboratories are having a direct impact on the treatment the military is able to provide, from the battlefield to the bedside. Many wounded warriors are walking, talking and leading productive lives today because of the research and medical advancements in wound management, wound repair and reconstruction, as well as extremity and internal hemorrhage control and phantom limb pain in amputees. Research also focuses on undersea and submarine medicine and toxicology, as well as health issues associated with non-conventional weapons, including directed energy, blast injuries, biological agents, and radiation exposure.
