202 Podcast Answer Man – Mic Placement – Digital Product Delivery – Libsyn Premium Content Solution – And So Much More

Summary: In this episode of Podcast Answer Man, I share some updated information to confirm that the R-09HR recorder has been discontinued. I assure those who have purchased the R-09HR that they should not feel bad because it is actually a better recorder than the R-05 due to his superior mp3 encoding as mentioned in episode 201 of Podcast Answer Man. With that said, I stand by my recommendation of the Roland R-05 as my preferred digital audio recorder if a new, in the box R-09HR is no longer available. Vince called in and shared how much he loves his R-09HR recorder and to also ask for some advice on how he can make it so that his guests on Skype can hear the audio clips that he plays in his podcast without the need to turn the aux out volume up and down for each clip. There are a many differing opinions on this topic. As you might imagine, I gave my opinion on proper mic placement in response to Keith’s question. Wayne from New York called in to ask for my opinion of the new offerings for podcasters to offer premium content to their audience. In response to this question, I played an interview that I did with Rob Walch regarding this exact topic. In an effort to keep the show under and hour, I just briefly shared my thoughts on this, which I’m actually glad that I did start the ending music that forced me to keep my thoughts brief and to the point. Basically, I think that there will be “some” who find this service appealing. Those would be the same people who are comfortable allowing Libsyn to handle every single aspect of their podcasting, including rss fee, website for show notes, blogging, etc. However, a majority of my audience doe not fit into this category. As I was playing the interview, while broadcasting the recording of my show live, my chat room had a pretty harsh reaction to the thought of giving up 40% of the profits of your efforts in creating premium content to anyone for the sake of convenience when you could invest a few hours to learn how to create a password protected page of your own and learn how to use PayPal subscription buttons or some other Shopping Cart solution that would allow you to keep 100% of your profits from premium content. In all fairness to Libsyn, I really dont’ think they have my target audience in mind when they created this service. In 2010, my gspn.tv Plus Membership generated just over $27,000 of income for my business. I spent two weeks setting up my system and about an hour or so every week just to keep my systems maintained. In opinion, it was worth the extra $10,800 (40%) of income to go through the trouble of doing all that work.
