E-cast: EDA, ESL and More Ideas from DAC

Embedded E-cast show

Summary: Can hardware and software be developed for SoCs independently, or are the two so tightly coupled they must be developed concurrently? Can modeling the "system" wait until actual silicon is available, or must it be done with better tools at the architecture stage before the SoC is created? If 90% of the world's IP is already available, why is creating SoCs so challenging? When did RTL become an antique? The whole model of a SoC now, followed by software support after the fact is being thrown out the window. Designers must consider not only how IP blocks work, but how they are interconnected, interact, and program before the SoC architecture can be established.
