Summary: I have two blogs: If you look closely, you'll realize that both blogs share nearly 100% of the same content. I did this so that I could further develop the LOCAL blog (since I was trying to get better placement for local potential clients). Indeed, the LOCAL one took off and is number 1. The other blog is not doing nearly as well (more competition for the state-wide search term). Though I'm convinced that I'm doing something else wrong that keeps me buried - I KNOW my content is newer and fresher than much of my competition.
