Search and Rescue in Gander Wins an International Award

Summary: A Cormorant helicopter crew from 9 Wing Gander has received a prestigious international award for a daring rescue mission a year ago. The award recognized their heroic actions in saving the lives of two Inuit hunters stranded in icy waters near Igloolik, Nunavut. Three SAR technicians from 8 Wing Trenton also shared in the award. Sadly one of those technicians lost his life during the mission. He received the award posthumously. (PRON: pos-chuh-muhs-lee) On Tuesday, the crew from 103 Search and Rescue Squadron - Gander - accepted the Award of Gallantry from the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators in London, England. Captain Dean Vey was First Officer on the mission.
