Summary: The Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board is now preparing its strategic environmental assessment. That will determine whether the board will allow oil development in the Gulf of St.Lawrence. As part of the assessment, the board says it is holding a round of public consultations, to allow concerned citizens and groups to voice their opinions. Well, one woman who attended the latest hearing in Port aux Basque says it wasn't much of a hearing at all, and the CNLOPB is only paying lip service to dissenting voices. Marilyn Clark is a member of the Save our Seas and Shores Action Committee, which includes fishermen, environmentalists and native groups from five provinces.
