Don't forget to stop by ArabicPod101.com for more great Arabic Language Learning Resources! -------Lesson Dialog------- ----Formal ---- دارا الأول أحد الملوك الفرس الثلاثة الذين لقبوا "بالعظيم"،دارا الأول كان الملك الرابع الذي يحكم الإمبراطورية الأخمينية التي أسسها كورش العظيم في 550 قبل الميلاد. لم يكن له علاقة مباشرة بكورش، لكنه كان ينتمي الى القبيلة نفسها، لذلك تم ضمه الى الملوك الأخمينيين. حكم كملك الملوك (شاهينشاه) في بلاد فارس بعد ابنين لكورش هما قمبيز الثاني و برديا. أصول دارا غير معروفة بشكل كامل، لكن يقال بأنه أتى من ظروف متواضعة جدا و برز ليصبح الرماح الشخصي للملك قمبيز الثاني. وصل دارا الأول الى العرش في 522 قبل الميلاد و حكم لمدة 36 عام. الامبراطورية الفارسية لم تشمل بلاد فارس فقط، لكن شملت أيضا مصر ، كردستان ، بولشستان( جزء من باكستنان حاليا) و أجزاء من اليونان. أضاف دارا الأول ماقدونيا و تراقيا الى الامبراطورية و قام بمهاجمة سيثيا. شملت إصلاحاته الاقتصادية تطوير عملة عالمية استخدمت بداخل و خارج الامبراطورية الفارسية. وازدهرت التجارة العالمية نتيجة لذلك، و قام ببناء الطرق السريعة ، الشحن التجاري ، والنظام البريدي من أجل تشجيع التجارة. قام بتأسيس نظام ضريبي جديد أدى الى افتتاح البنوك التي قدمت القروض و الائتمانات. ان تدفق الأموال الحكومية مكنه من تحسين البنية التحتية بما في ذلك الري و الطرق. قام ببناء القناة التي تربط بين البحر الأحمر و النيل بين البحرين الأحمر و المتوسط. رغم أنه زرداشتي، استمر دارا الثاني في سياسة كورش الثاني التي تنص على التسامح الديني ، ولم يسمح فقط للشعوب التي يسيطر عليها بحرية ممارسة عقائدهم الدينية، لكنه منحهم المنح الموسمية ، و أصلح أماكنهم المقدسة و راقب بعض طقوسهم الدينية. ----Formal English---- DARIUS I One of the three Persian kings with the title “The Great,” Darius I was the fourth king of the Persian Achaemenid Empire established by Cyrus the Great in 550 BC. He was not a direct relation of Cyrus’, but he did belong to the same tribe, so he is grouped in with the Achaemenid kings. He ruled as king of kings (shahenshah) in Persia after the two sons of Cyrus, Cambyses II and Bardiya. Darius I’s origins are not fully known, but it has been said that he came from humble circumstances and rose to become King Cambyses II’s personal lancer. Darius I came to the throne in 522 BC and ruled for 36 years. The Persian Empire covered not only Persia, but also Egypt, Kurdistan, Baluchistan (part of present-day Pakistan) and parts of Greece. Darius I added Macedon and Thrace to the empire and attacked Scythia. His economical reforms included the development of a universal currency that was used in and out of the Persian Empire. International trade bloomed as a result, and he built highways, commercial shipping, and a postal system to further encourage trade. He established a new tax system that led to the creation of banks that provided credit and loans. The influx of government funds enabled him to improve infrastructure including irrigation and roads. He built a canal linking the Red Sea to the Nile and between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.
