Summary: Research is unlocking secrets of the Sun's interior, which has been a mystery for decades. Scientists have long wondered why the Sun's chromosphere (a.k.a., 'ring of fire') is much hotter than the surface of the star. A recent discovery reveals that sound waves -- vibrations from the Sun's interior -- are escaping through magnetic cracks to create fountains of hot gas that shape and power the 'ring.' Another piece in solving the puzzle of the 'ring' which is connected to our climate and the ozone layer.
