Summary: Legionnaire's disease is an atypical pneumonia caused by infection with legionella pneumophyla. It is estimated to cause two to 9% of cases of community acquired pneumonia. It occurs more commonly in the late summer, early fall. Risk factors for getting it include cigarette smoking and underlying lung disease.
