The Drive with Alan Taylor show

Summary:
Joining Alan this week on is Steve Koenig – Vice President of research for the Consumer Technology Association and CES. He shared how 2200 companies showed up for this years event. A lot of start-ups, over 150 countries were showcased. Steve said there was an air of “attitude of gratitude”. Steve goes onto talk about the new west hall that is dedicated 100% to automotive. From ground to air to electric vehicles. He shares about the self driving semi truck to the Urban Air Mobility or air taxi. There was also the Space Tech showcase where Steve says that “space” is now a commercial base arena. The Final Frontier of business, where extra-planetary endeavors will soon become the new norm. Steve shed’s light on Metaverse and explains that it is the next generation of the internet that will deliver increasingly immersive digital experiences and over time will become inexplicably linked to our reality. It’s compelling and game changing. Next up is George Kennedy III – Co-founder of Cartender and Freelance Automotive Journalist for CarGurus, Boston Globe, and U.S. News & World Report. Alan and George carry on briefly about what’s to come in the future regarding consumer technology. They talk about Bugatti releasing a scooter and how it’s just another way of showcasing their brand. The duo talk about electric trucks, like the Ford F150 lightening and the Chevy Silverado EV. George has been driving a 2021 Ford Ranger Quad Cab and says its really a good fit for a small truck. It’s got 270 horsepower with a turbocharged 4 cylinder motor, which is pretty good. Next they talk about BMW 4 series. George drove the BMW M440i x-Drive with the big sniff grill. It has a twin power turbo inline 6 cylinder with 3.0 liter. His only gripe is that BMW calls it a coupe. Closing the show with Alan is BJ Killeen – Automotive Journalist and Voice of Reason. They talk about their favorite subject, electric vehicles. BJ feels that it is a great idea in theory but they didn’t think it through regarding the long run. What happens when there is no power? And the lack of charging stations. Alan shares that he will be attending the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Arizona this month. He will be doing symposiums on electric cars as well as celebrities and their cars. BJ won’t be attending but shares that the Fast and Furious cars will be showcased. A 49 Chevy Fleet Line, a Ford Fairlane, and even a Buick Grand National.

[00:00:00] – Consumer Technology Association[00:06:11] – New Automotive Exhibit Hall[00:12:30] – VinFast[00:19:51] – Metaverse [00:30:29] – Bugatti Scooter[00:35:52] – Chevy Silverado EV[00:42:13] – Branding[00:47:47] – Ford Ranger[00:54:45] – BMW 4 series[01:02:05] – Wireless Apple Car Play[01:12:04] – Electric Cars are Noisy[01:18:06] – Barrett-Jackson

CREDITS

Host: Alan TaylorProducer: Dave MilliganCopy Editor: Colleen Mahi Contributor: George Kennedy IIIContributor: BJ KilleenSpecial Guest: Steve Koenig

EXPLORE MORE WITH HELPFUL LINKS:

* Special Guest: Steve Koenig | Vice President of Re...
