2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, 2022 Toyota Tundra, 2022 Ford Maverick, and the 2021 SEMA in Las Vegas | #480

It’s a plug-in hybrid that will do an average of 37 miles per gallon with 261 horsepower. George shares that Hyundai is getting better in quality and style. It’s got solid acceleration and it corners and drives well. The fully loaded version comes in at a cool 38K. Up next is Karl Brauer – Automotive Industry Analyst, Forbes Autos Contributor, North American Car and Truck of the Year (or NACTOY) juror and board member, Executive Analyst for ISeeCars.com, Executive Publisher at CarExpert.com. Karl is driving the new re-designed 2022 Toyota Tundra.  Karl shares that there are no V8’s.  But they got a powerful 3.5-liter V6 turbo, or a 3.5 liter V6 with Hybrid with a Hybrid powertrain.  The non-hybrid makes more torque and horsepower than the V8 that was in the last Tundra.  But the hybrid version makes a lot more torque and horsepower and is fast.  Alan shares about his son-in-law’s new 2021 F150, 3.5 twin turbo Eco boost, hybrid.  Alan says he drove it and it is fast. Karl explains what turbo technology is, which is a forced conduction driven off the exhaust gas.  Bottom line is that it’s making a smaller displacement engine feel and act as if it’s a large displacement engine.  Technology caught up by making turbo’s viable. Alan asks about the Ford Maverick truck.  Karl says you get a lot of truck,  2.5 liter hybrid powered truck with a CVT automatic transmission with front wheel drive.  A true compact truck.  the Hybrid version get’s 40mpg in the city.  1500lbs in payload and 2000 in towing that drives really well like a car.  A non-hybrid version has 4000lb towing capacity, and FX4 version comes with a bunch of off road equipment with all wheel drive.  Karl says the unibody chassis are being made way better and stronger. Joining Alan next is  Chris Kersting -President and CEO of SEMA, a big trade show in Las Vegas, is coming up.   The show is looking good says Chris.  Over 1370companies and manufacturers exhibiting at the show.  Over 40,000+ resellers who are bringing back all the cool products and making it available for the gearheads. The first week of November, SEMA ignited, will be open for the public. 1500 award winning amazing cars and trucks will be brought to Vegas to showcase.  SEMA Ignited; gives people a chance to see the amazing show cars.  It takes place in the afternoon. Chris shares that for the first time, this year, for the first 5000 folks who register, they get an opportunity to purchase a special pass to go into the SEMA show and participate.   It’s been 2 years since the manufacturers were able to bring and show stuff off.  Innovation is the heartbeat.  Chris is looking forward to having this event again.
