UnforMETable, Episode 54: John Pacella

Home Run Applesauce: A New York Mets podcast show

Summary: Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Born in Brooklyn and having grown up on Long Island, the Mets tabbed local prospect John Pacella in the fourth round of the 1974 draft. The local boy would make brief appearances with the team in 1977 and 1979 before making a bit of a mark in 1980. In addition to a stretch of solid starts in the middle of the season—including outdueling Steve Carlton for his first major league victory—Pacella gained some notoriety for his wild pitching motion, which caused him to lose his baseball cap on virtually every pitch. As always, you can listen or subscribe to this and all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! And you can find us on the Stitcher app, or listen wherever you get podcasts. If you’ve got an idea for a player to be featured on UnforMETable, let us know in the comments. Make sure to follow Rob on Twitter (@WolffRR), and you can now follow the show, too (@unformetable). Tune in next week for another tale from the Mets’ past. Learn more about your ad choices.
