A Pod of Their Own, Episode 85: “This entire team is made of toothpicks and I love them.”

Home Run Applesauce: A New York Mets podcast show

Summary: Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin by discussing all of the highs and lows of the month of May for the Mets—the seven-game winning streak, the Patrick Mazeika magic, the terrible series in St. Petersburg and the bullpen breakdown, and then the rash of injuries. But somehow the Mets are still finding ways to win, as they have done the past two days, thanks to the self-proclaimed “bench mob.” And they are still in first place in the NL East. The long list of injuries is not just a Mets problem, however. In the second half of the show this week, we talk about how injuries are up all across the league, particularly soft tissue injuries. We also talk about how Kevin Pillar’s gruesome injury is indicative of a baseball-wide issue—pitchers throwing harder and harder with less and less control. We also discuss Tony La Russa being the absolute worst and remind our listeners that Mickey Callaway still has a job. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.
