Jurors and Justice

Open Ninth show

Summary: Jury duty. The mention of those two words fosters a wide range of feelings spanning from dread to pride and everything in between. The right to a jury trial is one of the most fundamental principles of our justice system. It’s so important that it is guaranteed in the Constitution – a guarantee that is backed and ensured by our participation. To have a jury is to commit to be a juror. And so we are called upon to serve. We serve with our mixed feelings and our of sense civic obligation, all the while never really exploring what it means to have a jury trial. Or exploring the significant role we as jurors play in ensuring justice for all. But in this latest episode of Open Ninth we do just that. Listen in to Chief Judge Lauten’s conversation with the director and cast of Rollins College’s production of 12 Angry Jurors as they explore the right to a jury trial and what it means to be a juror.
