Lonely People - 1

Reaching Your World with Luis Palau show

Summary: Six weeks before he died, Elvis Presley was asked by a reporter, “Elvis, when you started playing music, you said you wanted three things in life: You wanted to be rich, you wanted to be famous, and you wanted to be happy. Are you happy, Elvis?” Elvis replied, “No. I’m as lonely as hell.” Rich. Famous. But lonely. Maybe you, too, are that lonely. A Chicago woman died after jumping off the 14th floor of her apartment building. The note she left explained she killed herself because she was lonely. A reporter interviewed the woman’s neighbor, who said, “I wish I’d known she was lonesome. I’m lonesome myself.” Such loneliness is, at the root, a spiritual problem. It is caused by our separation from God. Attempts to hide our lonely feelings are useless. The harder and longer we reject God, the longer and greater our loneliness will be. In contrast, the Lord promises He will never leave or forsake those who commit their lives to Him. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done. The Bible says, “There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” [Proverbs 18:24]. This friend is Jesus Christ. By believing and putting your faith in Jesus, you can enjoy God’s presence and friendship on a continuing basis. This is Luis Palau.
