For a few years I've been wondering about how classic Sonic is "from another dimension," but I recently came across the theory that the Time Eater snatching classic Sonic, Tails and Eggman in Sonic Generations created an alternate timeline - the Sonic Mania timeline, if you will. But now that this thing finally makes sense to me, I've started wondering what the cause of the timeline split is. What changed that made the Phantom Ruby appear in the Mania timeline, but not the main series timeline?
