Summary: <p><em><strong>Juneteenth</strong></em> is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th.</p> <p>General Robert S. Granger issued a proclamation in Texas declaring slaves to be free. The following year those who were once slaves begin celebrating their independence. In a country that once fought and won their very independence, known as the United States of American. Governor of Texas, James V. Alfred made a  Juneteenth a recognizable holiday in the state of Texas.
