Despite being Lion, You end up being RAT in the Race!!! "Those who walk alone are likely to find themselves in places no one has ever been before". While this quote has been credited to everyone from Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Nelson Mandel, Adolf Hitler, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Theresa, to Wrigth Brothers to Einstein himself, the powerful message does not lose its substance no matter whom you choose to credit. There is a very important yet often overlooked effect of not heeding this warning. One which can be applied to all aspects of life. From love and happiness, to jobs, business and marketing, copying what your competitors are doing and failing to forge your own path can be a detrimental mistake. How long will it take to our competitors to duplicate our advantage? While we embrace importance of differentiation (being YouNeek), we have been trained and complacent with normalizing or standardizing!!!! Right from early childhood, you are expected to be conformative and it becomes more & More stringent as you grow!!! So much so that, we beg / borrow / steal(Gate crash) to own latest iPhone, not because it is cutting edge or nifty, but to conform to our peers. By Holding on to (Only) IP, Patents, Positions, Certificates, Grades, Egos will only help you loose the battle, position and also, makes it very difficult to bounce back without innovation. The truth of the matter is, anyone can be YouNeek. In fact, we all are very different & YouNeek. Even identical twins with the same DNA will be YouNeek. As an individual or business, the real challenge lies in being different in a way that is relevant, valuable to your audience, and creates an advantage. How long will it take for your subordinate to acquire the new skill you have? How long will it take your employer to replace you? How long will it take to duplicate your advantage? I guess, you have the answer to that now. But, all of this is impossible or highly difficult if you keep innovating by being YouNeek!!!
