Summary: I also watched a programme on John Wayne which was quite interesting....I've always found Big John to be a bit of a joke....he makes war films where he is the hero yet he never actually served his country....unlike other stars of the time like James Stewart and Clarke Gable....I never knew whether he wasn't perhaps fit enough to sign up but apparently he was but decided it would effect his movie career....he reckoned he did send an application off three years into the war but never got a reply....so he fought his wars on the silver screen in Hollywood and made a fortune....so I was right....they had an old marine on who called him a "Jerk" which seemed to sum him up.....he says he always regretted not serving his country.... I actually wrote a song about the all American hero.....I got some feedback on it at the time from the States saying the song said it all about Big John.....they didn't get it obviously....the song is actually taking the mick......and here it is....The Ballad of John Wayne
