A Pod of Their Own, Episode 39: Baseball Maverick

Home Run Applesauce: A New York Mets podcast show

Summary: Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, we begin the show with excitement because baseball is back! We talk about our bold predictions for the Mets in 2020 and the biggest story lines heading into spring training, including the ridiculous double-standard surrounding the media’s treatment of Yoenis Cespedes compared to Madison Bumgarner. Next, we have a podcast book discussion of Baseball Maverick by Steve Kettmann—a book about Sandy Alderson’s time as GM of the Mets. We take a look at how the Alderson era looks in hindsight, talk about our favorite anecdotes in the book, and more. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise. You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps!
