Summary: Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure, but quintessential Mets players from the past. Drafted in the 38th round in 1999, Mike Jacobs had a long route to the majors, but eventually got called up to the Mets in August of 2005. Despite homering in his first major league at bat, the team saw Jacobs as a temporary solution, and planned to send him right back down to the minors. However, thanks in part to the intervention of future Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez, Jacobs stayed with the big club—and had an epic September. Jacobs looked like he might be part of a core of young Mets stars, with David Wright and Jose Reyes—but he would soon become a key part of a trade that would bring Carlos Delgado to New York instead.
