Episode 51 – Gift of Gab

BSP: Believer Skeptic Podcast show

Summary: In this episode, Cody and Chris discuss the strange phenomenon commonly known as speaking in tongues. To you science nerds, it’s glossolalia, xenolalia, and Foreign Accent Syndrome (listen in to learn what they are). In Cody’s first story, he discusses glossolalia as it relates to Megan Fox and Katy Perry (you read that right). Chris then turns to Reddit and reads someone’s personal experience with speaking in tongues. Cody’s next story has some supernatural aspects and deals with a woman who mysteriously starts speaking German. Chris’s last story comes from a science journal and tells of a Belgian woman who, one day, started sounding like she was from another country. They then discuss scientists in Glasgow, who have created an artificial whiskey-tasting tongue. This week’s drinks: Whispering Angel rosé and Sideshow the Charmer shiraz.<br> <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/bsp-the-idio-t-synchrasy-files/id1271588099" target="_blank" rel="noopener"></a> <a href="https://www.stitcher.com/s?fid=152948&amp;refid=stpr" target="_blank" rel="noopener"></a> <a href="https://playmusic.app.goo.gl/?ibi=com.google.PlayMusic&amp;isi=691797987&amp;ius=googleplaymusic&amp;link=https://play.google.com/music/m/Idyya5igdpxb6ahq7jk367nvtze?t%3DBSP:_The_Idio%255Bt%255Dsynchrasy_Files%26pcampaignid%3DMKT-na-all-co-pr-mu-pod-16" target="_blank" rel="noopener"></a> <a href="https://www.blubrry.com/bsp_the_idiotsynchrasy_files/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"></a><br> <br> Advisory: 0:00s-0:12s<br> Intro Music: 0:12s-0:36s<br> Topic: 0:36s-4:39m<br> Drinks: 4:39m-6:52m<br> History: 6:52m-12:00m<br> Megan Fox/Katy Perry: 12:00m-17:50m<br> Growing Up In Church: 17:50m-<br> Podcoin: 22:18m-23:15m<br> Dolores Jay: 23:15m-30:35m<br> Belgian Story: 30:35m-35:33m<br> Promo: 35:33m-36:13m<br> Skeptic: 36:13m-41:39m<br> Believer: 41:39m-45:10m<br> Artificial Tongue: 45:10m-46:30m<br> Sign Off: 46:30m-47:30m<br> Outro Music: 47:30m-47:47m<br> <br> Links-<br> <br> Glossolalia:<br> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossolalia">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossolalia</a><br> <a href="https://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Glossolalia">https://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Glossolalia</a><br> <br> FAS:<br> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_accent_syndrome">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_accent_syndrome</a><br> <a href="https://www.utdallas.edu/research/FAS/">https://www.utdallas.edu/research/FAS/</a><br> <br> The experience of speaking in tongues:<br> <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/exchristian/comments/7pyoso/the_experience_of_speaking_in_tongues/">https://www.reddit.com/r/exchristian/comments/7pyoso/the_experience_of_speaking_in_tongues/</a><br> <br> Belgian FAS:<br> <a href="https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnhum.2016.00143/full#B47">https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnhum.2016.00143/full#B47</a><br> <br> Creep of the Week:<br> <a href="https://www.slashgear.com/artificial-tongue-is-meant-to-taste-whiskey-08586684/">https://www.slashgear.com/artificial-tongue-is-meant-to-taste-whiskey-08586684/</a>
