ACAB Radio - Episode 6 - With Nissa Tzun

The SNLS Network show

Summary: ACAB Radio is a police accountability podcast that is broadcast LIVE every Tuesday on Facebook out of Las Vegas by 2 local activists from Food Not Bombs Las Vegas and Nevada Cop Block. We're your hosts: Kelly "Special K" Patterson and Jay Lyfer. We focus primarily on local, national, and global police news stories that make headlines every week. We also discuss issues surrounding the homeless crisis here in the US and abroad. We cover these topics because it's something that we are all very passionate about, but we do talk about other stuff too. We hope you all enjoy the show! If you find value in our content please consider supporting our work... On the sixth episode the ACAB Las Vegas Radio ( https://www.facebook.com/ACABradio/ ) weekly podcast, Nissa Tzun of the Forced Trajectory Project ( ForcedTrajectory.com ) and Families United 4 Justice ( FU4Jnetwork.org ) came on again as a guest. (She previously appeared on our third show: https://youtu.be/h0__1_5sMiw ) Among other things, we discussed the "Justice for Tashii Brown - 1st Year Mother's Day Vigil" (https://www.facebook.com/events/943016019208325/ ), which will take place on Sunday May 13th in front of the Bellagio Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip at 3pm (PST). As the title of the event indicates, this vigil commemorates one year since Tashii Brown was murdered by LVMPD Officer Kenneth Lopera at the Venetian Hotel early in the morning of Mother's Day 2017. (More info - https://nvcopblock.org/?s=tashii+brown ) Incidentally, the already inadequate charge of "Involuntary Manslaughter" that Lopera is facing for purposely choking Brown to death is currently under review by a grand jury that has the ability to vacate that indictment. After already having been postponed twice the grand jury's decision on whether to uphold those charges is now due May 24th. (More info - https://nvcopblock.org/173699/grand-jury-manslaughter-charge-lvmpd-officer-kenneth-lopera-tashii-farmer-brown-murder/ ) We also discussed the May Day Rally and March that took place the week prior. Several family members of the victims of police violence were in attendance that day. Also, Dominick Archibald spoke during the rally about the November 2015 murder of her son, Nathanial Pickett, by San Bernardino Sheriff's Deputy Kyle Woods in Barstow, Ca. (More info - https://nvcopblock.org/173919/victims-families-speak-impact-of-police-violence-las-vegas-may-day/ ) Another topic of discussion was the media's role in the cover-ups of police violence. In particular, this applies to the Las Vegas media and their unwillingness to question the police narrative during press conferences held by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and other local departments. One recent example of this was the case of Junior Lopez, who was shot by LVMPD Officers Rivera and Mills on April 6th. Not only was there glaring visual inconsistencies between the police descriptions of what led to that shooting and the body camera footage, but also claims by the family that that footage had been edited to remove even more conflicting evidence. However, during the press conference where that bodycam video was released not one question challenging that official story or pointing out those contradictions was asked by the media representatives present.
