ACAB Radio - Episode 21

The SNLS Network show

Summary: ACAB Radio is a police accountability podcast that is broadcast LIVE every Tuesday on Facebook out of Las Vegas by 2 local activists from Food Not Bombs Las Vegas and Nevada Cop Block. We're your hosts: Kelly "Special K" Patterson and Jay Lyfer. We focus primarily on local, national, and global police news stories that make headlines every week. We also discuss issues surrounding the homeless crisis here in the US and abroad. We cover these topics because it's something that we are all very passionate about, but we do talk about other stuff too. We hope you all enjoy the show! If you find value in our content please consider supporting our work... As always, we had plenty to talk about on this episode of ACAB Radio. That, of course, included discussion of local issues with the police and politicians. First though, we talked about the murder of Botham Jean by Dallas Police Department Officer Amber Guyger. The more new information that comes out the more obvious it is that no real investigation was made of his killing. In fact, the more it seems that that "investigation" was geared toward smearing Jean and blaming the victim in order to clear Guyger of any responsibility for her murderous actions. (See related story: https://nvcopblock.org/174046/officer-amber-guygers-murder-botham-jean-good-cops-media-protect-bad-apple/ ) We also discussed the 2015 fatal shooting of Autumn Steele by Burlington Iowa Police Department Officer Jesse Hill. Steele was killed when Officer Hill tried to shoot her family's dog during a domestic dispute call. Hill claimed the dog was attacking him. However, the body cam video has finally been released and not only does the dog not appear to be attacking him, but Steele, her husband, and their young son were all standing close to the dog when Hill shot at it. The BPD fought tooth and nail to prevent that video from getting released publicly and it's pretty obvious now why. (See video: https://youtu.be/leKfVXDFlmw ) Once again we also reminded people about the LVMPD's actions on the behalf of Officer Kenneth Lopera, who murdered Tashii Brown at the Venetian last year (2017) on Mother's Day. It's been announced that there will be a public "fact finding" review held where they will attempt to justify District Attorney Steve Wolfson's decision to drop the charges against Lopera. That has since been rescheduled to September 24th.
