Ep. 112 Change Your Mindset To Change Your Life, With Curtis McGrath

Your Life Of Impact with Brett Robbo show

Summary: Curtis McGrath OAM is an Australian para-canoeist and Paralympic Gold Medallist who took up canoeing competitively after having both of his legs amputated as a result of a mine blast whilst serving in the Australian Army in Afghanistan.

Curtis is one of the most humble humans i've crossed paths with and part of this conversation felt like I was watching a movie. He goes into a lot of detail about his job in the Defence Force, which is considered to be one of the most dangerous jobs in the army!!! He doesn't hold back on some of the gory details of his accident either, so if you’ve got a weak stomach, what a great way to move through that feeling!

This is an episode that should leave you feeling extremely grateful for what you have in life and feeling inspired to draw strength and courage from your adversities and challenges, not be held back by them!

One of the things we chatted about offline that we didn’t cover in the episode is a kayak paddle he did from Sydney to Brisbane approximately 900 kilometers, completing the journey in three weeks.

They paddled 40 - 60 km each day then pulled into a beach to camp and would then do it all again the next day.

This was to raise money and awareness for a veterans charity called Mates4Mates, who are supporting wounded, injured or ill current and ex-serving Defence Force personnel and their families.

This was a massive effort for an important and great cause, so a huge shout out to the legends at Mates4Mates.

Curtis also discusses his desire for you to help him on his journey by getting behind the Paralympic movement.

You can follow everything from the Paralympics Australia team of legends at paralympic.org.au and @AUSParalympics on social media.

Follow Curtis Online:
- Instagram: @curtmcgrath
- Facebook: Curtis McGrath Athlete
- Website: Curtismcgrath.com.au

Mates For Mates:
- Website: mates4mates.org
- Social media: @mates4mates

Paralympics Australia:
- paralympic.org.au
- @AUSparalympics
