Episode 23: Rock-n-Roll Star Jim Holvay on Learning How to Sell

College Recruiting Weekly Podcast show

Summary: Lots of college coaches say, "How am I supposed to 'sell' my recruits on my program when I really have never been taught to sell?" That's the same question today's guest was asking himself 35 years ago. He was winding down a successful career in the music industry. He had written a hit #1 Billboard song, and had been touring with a band he helped get together, convinced that they were going to become, in his words, "the next Beatles". It didn't work out that way. Music tastes changed, and Jim had to re-invent himself. He chose sales, and learned to be successful. In this episode, coaches who listen to this fascinating, instructive and funny conversation will come away with strategies Jim Holvay learned as he observed customers in selling situations, and a roadmap for how to learn the art of selling (and recruiting). You'll also learn about the special connection between Jim Holvay and Dan Tudor, and how Jim played a pivotal role in teaching Dan some of the same selling principles that he has passed along to college coaches over the years.
