Summary: Jacobs brutalizes Mora in mismatch (Friday Night) By Kurt Wolfheimer at ringside Photos: Andy Samuelson / Premier Boxing Champions WBA “regular” middleweight world champion Daniel “The Miracle Man” Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) successfully defended his title in a rematch with a seventh round technical knockout over former 154lb champion Sergio “The Latin Snake” Mora (28-4-2, 9 KOs) on Friday night at the Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania. Jacobs, widely considered the top threat to unified WBC/WBA/IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, made another statement in his third successful defense, dropping Sergio Mora five times. The bout was a rematch of a fight held last August in which both fighters hit the canvas in the opening round before Jacobs got the second round stoppage, when Mora injured his ankle on his way to the canvas in the second round and couldn’t continue. This time the bout was never that close. Jacobs targets Golovkin; Mora: I have a lot left “I want to prove to the world that I’m the best middleweight,” proclaimed WBA regular middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs after his seventh round stoppage of Sergio Mora on Friday night in Reading, PA. “If GGG gets the victory tomorrow, that’s who we want.” Regarding his rematch with Mora, Jacobs stated, “I wanted to go in there to hurt him and keep my knockout streak alive. I did what I said I would. I didn’t expect to knock him down as much, but I did see the fight ending in a knockout. It took a while because he’s so tricky. I wasn’t able to jab the way I wanted to. That’s what happens when you fight guys who have been in the game for a long time.” Jacobs also stated that he plans to fight again in December, headlining at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Whether the opponent will be Gennady Golovkin remains to be seen. * * * Mora, meanwhile, said a rabbit punch contributed to his downfall. “I’m not going to take anything away from his victory, but I never recovered from a shot to the back of the head. They counted it as a knockdown so I’ll have to take a look at the video, but it felt like the back of the head…the fight was close in my heart. Daniel finally gave me credit. I didn’t feel like I got beat up, he just caught me with good shots. I have a lot left in me. I’m going to look at the tape and see where I’m at.” Golovkin wins by TKO5 when Brook’s corner throws in towel Photos: Matchroom Boxing WBC/WBA/IBF middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) retained his titles with a fifth round TKO over IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) on Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London. Golovkin staggered Brook in round one and had him holding on, but Brook rallied late in the round. Brook landed some clean shots in round two. Good two-way action in round three. Both fighters getting marked up. After a competitive round four, GGG launched a furious attack in round five and Brook’s corner threw in the towel. It was GGG’s 23rd consecutive knockout. Golovkin’s WBA belt was not on the line. Kamegai TKOs Soto Karass in eight By Rocky Morales at ringside In a rematch of a war that ended in a draw earlier this year, super middleweight slugger Yoshihiro Kamegai (27-3-2, 24 KOs) left no doubt this time. Kamegai dominated Jesus “El Renuente” Soto Karass (28-11-4, 18 KOs) from the opening bell on Saturday night at the Forum in Los Angeles. Soto Karass was hurt with a body shot to the liver in round one and was never in it after that as Kamagai pressed the action. The end came in round eight when Kamegai battered the game Soto Karass, then dropped him. Soto Karass finished the round, but his corner stopped the fight. Kamegai wins by TKO8. “Chocolatito” super flyweight invasion successful, Cuadras dethroned By Rocky Morales at ringside Photos: Chris Farina – K2 Promotions Undefeated WBC flyweight champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, (46-0, 38 KOs) dethroned previously undefeated WBC super flyweight champion Carlos “Principe” Cuadras (35-1-1,...
