Summary: Episode #006 – Welcome Officer Technician Jay Castro and his K-9 partner Willy. Jay is a K-9 Officer under the Special Operations Branch of the Uniformed Division. Willy is a Belgian Malinois who entered duty with the U.S. Secret Service on April 1, 2015. The Canine Unit’s mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for individuals and locations protected by the U.S. Secret Service. This coverage includes but is not limited to security sweeps, bomb threats, suspicious packages, vehicles, and material examinations. The Canine Unit provides this coverage on a 24/7 basis in support of the White House Complex, Foreign Missions Branch, and the Vice President’s Residence while supporting protective details worldwide. Belgium Malinois are prized for their versatility and high work-drive, because of this they are highly sought after as police and military K-9s. The American Kennel Club describes the Malinois as confident, smart, and a world-class worker.
