FILM: Meet South Cox

Gritty Bowmen TV show

Summary: "In a way... it's almost like life. You can take lessons you learn in the field and apply them to life and vice versa. There is so much you can learn with a bow in your hand." -- South CoxI just returned from a weekend scouting trip with my 12-year old daughter and my niece. Camping and hiking with them in the wilderness, sitting by the campfire and swimming in a cold mountain stream was rejuvenating. It felt good to get away from the pavement and the city and enjoy the outdoors. And for some reason, my scouting trip this weekend had me thinking about this film with South. I have fond memories of this visit to Stalker Stickbows. From the first moment I met South I liked him. We met at the Full Draw Film School in April 2014. My wife was diagnosed with cancer not long after that and South would PM me on Facebook every now and then to see how she was doing. South barely even knew me then. It was a very kind thing to do. Anyway, tonight I was just thinking about life and my kids and the peace I feel in the outdoors and it got me thinking about some of the things South talks about in this video so I had to come home and watch it again. I'm glad I did. If you haven't seen this film, take a minute and slow down. Set aside some quiet time and grab a cup of tea or whatever you like to drink and sit back and watch. Maybe South will inspire you to try your hand had a traditional bow. But if he doesn't, I hope his words and his views get you thinking about spending more of your time connected to nature instead of technology. Stay gritty.Brian Call
