CoinWeek: Upper Deck President Jason Masherah on the Debut of Blind Pack Modern Coins

CoinWeek show

Summary: Upper Deck took the trading card hobby by storm in 1989 with the launch of the industry's first premium baseball card. Using high quality photography, forward-thinking graphic design, and a counterfeit-proof hologram, the Upper Deck brand immediately established itself as the premier name in an industry synonymous with bubble gum cards. It didn't hurt that Ken Griffey, Jr.'s rookie card was the first card in the set. In 2017, Upper Deck will launch another first - blind pack modern precious medal coins as part of its newly launched Grandeur Hockey Coin Collection, which was unveiled on April 4, at the NHL Hall of Fame in Toronto. We talk to Upper Deck president Jason Masherah about the program and what it was like for the trading card publisher to enter the modern coin arena for the first time. * * * This CoinWeek podcast is brought to you by PCGS.
