Now their finding plastic particles hidden in sea ice. It's spread everywhere and it's contaminating everything. I have never understood why we use plastic water bottles and plastic shopping bags. Plastic has been one of the great modern inventions. It's used in everything from cell phones to cars. It's incredible. But plastic water bottles, plastic bags and plastic in most clothing is unnecessary and it's polluting the planet. Every year we use approximately 1.6 million barrels of oil just for producing plastic water bottles. Normally, plastic items can take up to 1000 years to decompose in landfills. But plastic bags we use in our everyday life take 10-1000 years to decompose, while plastic bottles can take 450 years or more. Here's another one: Just in the United States alone, every year more than 18 billion disposable diapers are thrown away. These disposable diapers take approximately 250-500 years to decompose in landfills, Paper on the other hand: Based on volume, paper the largest element in American landfills. Normally, it takes 2-6 weeks for landfills to get completely decomposed. Bottom line: Why are we doing this? So hit the play button!
