Summary: Topic: Expectation to Excellence. How to Navigate the Third Grade Reading Law The Third Grade Reading Law is a law requiring that students in grades K-3 be formally tested in reading at least three times per-year, including once within the first 30 days of school.  Starting in 2019-20, students who are at least one grade level behind in reading by the end of third-grade will be held back.Individualized improvement plans must be created to help students who are struggling. This is a concern for many educators and parents and Ms. Hawkins will show why this is an opportunity to take this Expectation and use it to attain Excellence. Audry Hawkins Bio: Audry Hawkins is a native of Detroit, mother of two, and grandmother of three. Currently she is an ESL teacher and Coordinator at Cesar Chavez Academy in Detroit. Audry is a twelve year teaching veteran that has who has spent three years teaching in S. Korea, 7 years in Memphis, TN, and the last two years in Detroit. She currently holds a Masters of Arts in teaching and holds an E.D.S. in Reading and Literacy Administration. Ms. Hawkins has always had a passion for teaching even though she never envisioned becoming a school teacher. “Teaching and motivating children is my goal and passion, I know that all students can learn if they believe they can.” Paul Garwood's Bio: Paul is Board Member and Vice President of Destination Achievers AGTO (Achieving Goals Through Outreach).
