She has one sister, Shanna Buchanan and one brother, Cyrus Buchanan. As a child, Sonya was baptized at the age 6. She was active in the youth church activities such as, the choir and speaking reciting poetry at the age of twelve where she discovered the gift of speaking and teaching before an audience.
