CoinWeek: Papyrus Creator and Coin Designer Chris Costello Joins Us

CoinWeek show

Summary: Chris Costello is not only a US Mint Artist Infusion Program coin designer, but is also the creator of the Papyrus font. Costello developed the font shortly after completing his undergraduate degree in 1982. Since then, the font has appeared as a standard choice on hundreds of millions of computers around the world. A recent Saturday Night Live skit thrust Chris and Papyrus into the media spotlight. We talk about coin design, the importance of typography on coins, his recent brush with fame, and his reaction to a vocal minority of people that have spoken out against the 225th Anniversary gold coin from the US mint, a coin that bears his reverse design. *** This CoinWeek podcast is brought to you by PCGS.
