Summary: <p>Apple announced its quarterly earnings with $45.4 billion dollars in revenue, and signaled that it expects strong sales of its upcoming iPhone once its officially announced sometime in the next few months. iPad sales topped 11.4 million units during the quarter, up 2% year over year.</p><p>A group of US lawmakers are working on legislation to shore up security on the internet of things. The bipartisan group introduced the Internet of Things Cybersecurity Improvement Act of 2017 that would require federal vendors of iOT devices to enable security updates and prevent them from having hardcoded default passwords that are difficult or impossible to change.</p><p>Facebook's experimental Building 8 lab has been hard at work on a video chat device with a touchscreen, about the size of a laptop screen, that will include a smart camera for tracking moving objects in its view.
