BPM Tech: Episode 29 - Royal Note Rumble!

The Bellingham Podcast show

Summary: * AJ puts a sleeper hold on a popular note service, and tag teams up with another contender. * Chris has been an associate of the Four Horsemen of online notetaking apps. He'll give you the inside scoop on which is real and which are fake. Lets get ready to Royal Note Rumble!! Ringside right here on BPM: Tech. The Big Show: AJ has a follow up from last episode on why you buy a case for your devices...like your phone. #SplatteredScreen. Just as he has in order a new case. **_Online Notes - why is this a thing?_** * If you're like Chris, you have a ton of ideas and thoughts swimming around your head, and need some kind of tool to keep track. * A digital notebook can be used to quickly jot down bits of info before you forget. * It you're like AJ, you have it as a portal for the junk drawer, or digital filing cabinet. **AJ - ** * AJ breaking up with Evernote, and is in a beta test group for something that goes right after the heart of Evernote...oh yea, and it is free. * Migrated to Apple Notes (https://support.apple.com/kb/ph12081?locale=en_US). So far so good. Tagging isn't really missed at all. BUT, * Sharing folders needs to be a thing * Pinning notes; needs to be a thing * A little color wouldn't be bad * Notebook (https://www.zoho.com/notebook/)- from a little big company called Zoho; beta testing * For the writing experience on desktop- OMM (http://www.ommwriter.com/) is my mantra still * For cross platform writing in general Quip (http://www.quip.com/) be it for me. Chris - * Box Notes, (https://www.box.com/notes) a free note/todo/collaboration solution for both online and desktop. Clean and LOGICAL interface, unlike... * Dropbox's Paper (https://paper.dropbox.com/)... which just came out of beta and is official as of Monday. I'm a tech, and I still can't figure out where everything is. Exportable to MS Word. Can't delete, only archive. Similar to a know-it-all computer tech confusing you with jargon blabber, yet not helpful in fixing your problem. * Bear (http://www.bear-writer.com/) - iOS/macOS - Nice look, great synchronization, colorful, but Tag-heavy. Browser extensions, convert notes to PDF or Word or JPEG, cross-note links. Free, but Bear Pro is $15/year. * Simplenote (https://app.simplenote.com/) - from the Wordpress folks - Cross-platform, clean intercase, supports Markdown, can publish online, share with others. Not a lot of integration with other software; like a one-man food truck. * Google Keep (https://keep.google.com/) - Nicely integrated with Google's Info-silo, but those huge boxes..... * Apple Notes (https://www.icloud.com/#notes) - What I'm currently using. Still curating the content to consolidate information.
