ADU 0162: How could the newly passed SB 142 privacy law in California affect me now & in the future? What can I do about it?

Ask Drone U show

Summary: Our podcast today is actually rather critical from a time stand point, especially if you live in California. As you may or may not know, California just passed a tough (and ignorant) law directly affecting drones and people's privacy. Essentially, they have removed any burden of proof for a home owner to show a pilot violated their rights. So now you can be sued for flying over their private property, and with no burden of proof on their part. If you live in California you only have a six day window to try and get this vetoed. You need to go here to do that: http://amagov.modelaircraft.org/18534/californiasb142/. This is another example of our "throwing the baby out with the bath water" government making law, while having a limited (if any) understanding of what they're actually making a law for. Here is a great article to check out about it also: http://www.forbes.com/sites/gregorymcneal/2015/08/11/californias-drone-trespass-bill-goes-too-far/. If you don't live in California then you should be very watchful for similar legislation heading your way because it can be (and probably will be) a domino affect. So stay tuned, and stay involved!
