Summary: Allan Lokos is the founder and guiding teacher of The Community Meditation Center in New York City. He is the author of several books including, Through the Flames: Overcoming Disaster Through Compassion, Patience, and Determination. Allan’s writings have appeared in The Huffington Post, Tricycle magazine, Beliefnet, and several anthologies. He has taught at a number of prestigious institutions including, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, The Omega Institute, and the Insight Meditation Community of Washington. Allan has practiced meditation since the mid-nineties and studied with such renowned teachers as Sharon Salzberg, Thich Nhat Hanh, and Robert Thurman.  On Christmas Day, 2012, Allan was on-board a plane in Burma when it crashed and exploded in flames. He was severely burned in the accident, and in the days and weeks following, the many doctors who examined Allan determined that he would not survive.
