Scene Safety, EMS Street Survival and Episode 486

MedicCast Audio Podcast for EMT Paramedics and EMS Students show

Summary: Scene safety is something I talk about all the time here on the MedicCast. What do you do, though, if the scene suddenly turns from safe to dangerous in the blink of an eye? I have a cautionary tale about that topic. If that’s what you’re looking for, you found it, right here on this week’s episode of the MedicCast.
The MedicCast is a proud member of the ProMed Podcast Network.
This episode is sponsored in part by Pain Ease the instant topical anesthetic from Gebauer – Get more info at Gebauer.com/podcast. I’m your host, Jamie Davis the Podmedic and I’d like to welcome you to this week’s show. This week’s show has more excellent content from EMS Today 2016 in Baltimore where I was covering the show from the Physio-Control booth. In this cautionary tale and segment from EMS Today, I have two San Diego paramedics who share their story of an assault on EMS and the physical, emotional, and psychological wounds they received. We’ll have that coming up after the introduction of this special episode.
All of these segments this week were recorded thanks to the continuing support and sponsorship of the Physio-Control corporation. Thank them for supporting your EMS podcasting community.
—
EMS Tip of the Week: Scene Safety Story From the Street
This next segment for the week is a story of an assault on a pair of San Diego paramedics while they were caring for a patient on a busy street. Out of the blue, they were assaulted by an individual with a knife. I want to say that I can find nothing wrong with the way these two guys approached their scene, before, during or in the aftermath of the attack. It was a surprise and no one could have predicted it.
The lesson here, if you’ll be open to learning it comes in how we support each other through difficult times. How do you handle stress in your job and deal with the things that you encounter on the job. These two exceptional gentlemen learned a lot about themselves in the course of their recovery from the attack. They are still learning about their reactions to the events that day. I want you to pay special attention to this special episode. It’s short, but it is packed full of good information for you and your colleagues. Check it out.
—-
Contact the MedicCast
If you want to get back in touch with me, make sure you do so.
