( Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples make up 4.9% of school students but only 1.2% of teachers.   So how do we boost the number of teachers who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander?   And how should we raise the confidence of non-Indigenous teachers when teaching the 3Rs: Indigenous Respect, Relationships and Reconciliation?   These are some of the questions raised at the recent forum for Improving How Australian Students and Teachers Understand Indigenous Issues.   The Forum was hosted by the Australian Council of Deans of Education.   Community leaders, university representatives institutes, teacher education students and educators attended the Forum to launch the 3Rs - the first national online resources for teacher education students and the 450,000 teachers in the workforce.   Dr Peter Anderson, Chair of the Australian Indigenous Lecturers in Teacher Education Association spoke with Melissa Compagnoni about the significance of this meeting.      )
