Weights - Part 3

Church on the Move Podcast show

Summary: Hebrews 12:1-2 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. If I want to let go of my weight, I've got to take responsibility. We like control, not responsibility. Responsibility: The state or fact of being responsible, answerable, or accountable for something within one's power, control, or management. Genesis 2:16-17 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” Genesis 3:12 The man said, “I’m the one at fault here and I take complete responsibility for my actions. The woman is innocent, so please, leave her out of it.” Genesis 3:12 The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” Locus of Control -Earn more money -Have more friends -Stay married longer -Live longer -Happier Learned Helplessness: A condition in which a person adapts to the misery because they feel that there is nothing they can do about it. Because if I can’t control it, then I’m not responsible for it. 1 John 4:4 You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the One who is is you is greater than the one who is in the world. Monitor your thoughts, feelings, and words. What piece of the pie am I willing to own?
