U.S. Stocks Open Lower as the Dow and S&P 500 Try to Turn Positive

Summary: U.S. stocks opened lower as oil prices slid again on the final trading day of 2015. This is a make or break session for the S&P 500 which is up 0.2 percent for the year as of Wednesday's close. If the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 both close lower for the year, it will be the first down year since the dark days of 2008. The NASDAQ is set to close up 7 percent. Energy stocks have been the biggest drag on stocks this year and in fact, oil prices continue their slide into the final trading days of 2015. Interestingly, despite all the volatility in Chinese markets this year the Shanghai Stock Index closed the year up 9.5 percent That's the second annual advance for the Shanghai Composite, and comes after government intervention to end a $5 trillion summer rout helped stabilize the world’s second-largest equity market.
