Summary: James H. Leary, Justice, Nashua (NH) District Court. Justice Leary was awarded a BA from University of Massachusetts, a MA in Counseling Psychology from Rhode Island College and a JD from Franklin Pierce Law Center. Prior to attending law school he worked as a teacher and social worker. He practiced law for 20 years in Nashua, New Hampshire and, in 2002, was appointed Special Justice of Nashua District Court. He was appointed Justice in 2005. Justice Leary has worked mental health providers in the Nashua area to improve communication with the courts and, in conjunction with the providers, instituted a mental health court program in 2006. The program is designed to provide diversion and sentencing alternatives for court involved individuals with mental illness and co-occurring disorders.
