Special Encore Presentation: Recovery is a Marathon, not a Sprint: Recovery from Dual Disorders with Guests Lindy Fox Smith and Katherine Armstrong

Summary: Lindy Fox Smith’s expertise has been gained through a combination of formal education and personal experience. She has been a recipient of the services that she now participates in designing and evaluating. As a result of this unusual combination of personal and professional experience, Lindy brings sensitivity, humor, and extensive knowledge to this challenging field of working with people with both serious mental illnesses and substance use disorders. She has authored books and many articles on the subject of dual disorders. Katherine Armstrong co-authored, along with Mary Woods, the recently released book, When The Door Opened, which tells the authentic stories of twelve men who have experienced treatment and recovery from co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders. As an outside observer, she gained a unique perspective of how stigma affects those with dual disorders.
