Summary: Apartheid was a South African system of legalized racial discrimination that ended in 1994, when Nelson Mandela was elected president and subsequently established a Truth and Reconciliation Commission. In this Explorer Seminar, social psychologist Scott Plous interviews anthropologist Walton Johnson about what it’s like to live in South Africa 20 years after the Commission was created, and what lessons we can learn from South Africa about forgiveness in daily life. After the interview, Professors Plous and Johnson are joined by South African students for a panel discussion, followed by questions and comments from the audience.
