Summary: The Trinity One of the biggest problems most people have, is understanding who God is. Some say He is the son of God, others say He is God the Father, and still others say He is the Holy Spirit. God's identity is something that many of us don't understand. It is so supernatural, that it also confused the religious leaders of His time and many of ours. In the book of John, Jesus speaking to the Jews said before Abraham, He was. John 8:58 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I Am!" His statement was so profound and humanly impossible that the Jews were shocked that He would claim to be on earth before Abraham. Especially since Abraham died about 2000 years before His birth. We can see how Jews responded in the following verses: John 8:57 So the Jews said to Him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and you have seen Abraham?" John 8:59 Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am." Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple. Furthermore He uses the word I AM, which was the name that God gave Moses to describe Himself to the Israelites. Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.'" Is it possible that Jesus could have been and seen Abraham? Not only is that something hard to grasp but He also said if they had known him they would know who the father is. John 14:7 If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!" John 15:26 "But I will send you the Advocate--the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me. Can God be more than one person? Is it possible that He can be the son of God, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit in One?
