TPP 082 – Newbie Concealed Carry Concerns

Tactical Paradise show

Summary: Welcome to Tactical Paradise!!!  I’m your host Greg Bakken.  In this podcast we’ll talk about all things tactical from everyday carry, to the mindset of armed citizens, real life situations and scenarios and the gear that will help you survive.  This is episode 82. Werkz  Holster Giveaway!! 3 ways to enter Email me and say, “I want a Werkz holster” in the subject line to feedback@tacticalparadise.com Hey Greg, love the show. I especially enjoy the way you mangle the English language! On a more serious note, I've heard you mention carrying your G27 in a Werkz "Digit" holster, even in your pocket. I carry my G26 in a Dale Fricke "Zacchaeus" which seems extremely similar, but I appendix carry. How does the holster come off of your pistol if not tethered to your belt? Anyway, keep up the good work. I look forward to hearing a response, either by email or perhaps on the show. The first year working i use to put my gun on the passanger seat on the way to work. Full mag & chambered. On the way to work i crashed in to a car that swerved in front of my my gun went flying & hit the windshield. I was going 35mph or so. The gun never fired. I just picked it up. Checked it. I have two subjects based on the latest show regarding a Round in the Chamber. I have been carrying for many years and there is a protocol that I follow to avoid any confusion that may occur under stress. I follow this religiously and allow for NO DEVIATION. When I carry a gun, which is always, I have a round in the chamber, so I never have to guess. When the gun is off of my body, (such as during the night), the gun has an empty chamber and a full magazine and is brought into action at the time of need. This has worked for me. Let me explain why I keep an empty chamber at night. My usual bedside gun is a Glock 19 w attached light, so no safety. I do not want to grab a chambered, no safety gun out of a dead sleep in a hurry, as I may grab within the trigger guard. I prefer to chamber at that time. I know, based on my established protocol, that I will have to chamber, my Wife follows this rule as well. Other than the gun being grabbed in a hurry for self defense, the gun is always checked for condition when the gun is picked up, every time. If the bedside gun is going on my body in the morning, it is checked and chambered. If the night time gun is going in the safe, it is checked when first handled and stored in the safe empty chamber, loaded magazine. I select the gun I will be carrying from the safe, it is checked and chambered at that time. Every time a gun is handled, or has been out of your control, the condition of that firearm is checked. Mr. D Greg, You have to tell me what you think here! I will not go through all of my experience, but I am currently an LEO firearms instructor with 35 years in the shooting sports, and I have a concern. I have seen and been sobered by people's inexperience that has made me a firm believer in the 4 gun safety rules. With concealed carry growing, I am seeing violations of those rules that can be deadly, but I think inexperienced people may not be concerned with it, as they maybe have not seen the consequences. My Wife has struggled with how to hide her CCW gun, as she has curves, and women have clothing that does not lend to easily concealing a gun. We both saw the corset depicted in the attached video as an option until I saw it demonstrated. In the demonstration, the woman muzzles herself several different times when holstering the guns in the corset. Even with the Bersa Thunder, when she says not to point it at yourself, she muzzles her left hip. Holstering,
