TED Podcast Extras – Android Podcast Apps

The Elder Divide show

Summary: Podcast Apps for Android. The top ones you can chose for listening to podcasts like this. I will point out the 3 top choices, features, pros and cons. Whether you have a cell phone, phablet or tablet these might be your best choice for Android podcast listening. They all have features like setting up play-lists, search for podcasts and downloading. Getting them on your device is simple. Just do a search on Google Play Store under Apps. Select download and install. You might want to first select their Free version to check it out and see what best works for you before purchasing the paid versions. You will have to deal with ads on the Free version but best way to see if it is for you. Pocket Casts by Shiftyjelly seems to be a top choice and holds top ranking on Google Play Store reviews with 4.7 out of 5. Is also #1 on Phandroid and AndroidCentral. $3.99 for full version, NO Free version for testing. Has refund option. Ported over from Apple iOS. Great UI (user interface). Finding podcasts is extremely easy. With a Pocket Cast account you can sync across devices. Even works with Google Chromecast. Shiftyjelly is a South Australia company. New Pocket Casts beta app verion coming soon. BeyondPod by BeyondPod Team is another top choice and holds top ranking on Google Play Store reviews with 4.6. Comes in at #2 on lifehacker and AndroidCentral. $6.99 for full version. Has phone and tablet versions. Plain UI. Huge library of podcasts even obscure ones. DoggCatcher is one of the other top choices and holds top ranking on Google Play Store reviews with 4.5. It’s #1 on lifehacker and Android Authority. $2.99 for full version. Available from Google Play Store and Amazon appstore. Easy to use but somewhat busy UI. Works with audio, video and RSS feeds. Automatic downloads and remembers playback position so you can return to where you left off. Active user community. This is my personal choice at present but trying Pocket Casts to see if I like it better. May be changing to this if things work out. I have previously tried BeyondPod but found it to be buggy and froze more than once on my tablet B&N Nook HD+ using their tablet version. All these reviews and rankings are from current mid 2014. Lots of others to chose from but these are the ones on top.
